Guest blogging became very popular in a short timespan. Bloggers always found guest blogging very useful to scale their blog and to generate content. Many bloggers created a parallel network of 10 to 15 guest bloggers who contributed 2 to 3 post everyday. Writing or allowing paid posts is also very common trend. Despite all these advantages , guest blogging has many disadvantages. Duplicate or spun content

This has been the biggest problem with guest blogging. Many guest bloggers write a single article and post it on multiple blogs as guest bloggers , such article might be spun articles that are created after making some usual changes to a single article , changes like replacing a word with similar word are common in this practice. Search engines are nowadays good with understanding similar content and interpreting words. A blogger may lose a lot by accepting such guest post. The best way to keep away from such harm is to accept guest post from reputed and known bloggers. You can also do a quick Google Search using some part of the article and find any relevant article on other blogs.

Incomplete information

Many guest posts are incomplete and redirect readers to some other blog for more information, the blog is mostly of the guest blogger. This can really harm your blogs reputation and you must make sure that your do not accept such guest posts.

Smaller post

Guest posts are generally smaller and intended for a backlink. Such smaller posts does not keep any value for readers and also for search engines. You have to make sure that you allow guest posts which are reasonably good and informative.

Links in the post

Guest blogger usually seek a “dofollow” link . When Search engine find a dofollow link on a webpage they relate the webpage with the linked page. If the link is spam , irrelevant or directly readers to some negative webpage, your blog domain and the page will lose a lot of SEO reputation. Many large websites have lost their PageRank by 40% to 60% by putting such links for money.  This can be avoided by allowing links to genuine and relevant webpages. You must make sure that the anchor text used with the link is relevant.

Guest blogging can harm and actually reduce the readership of your blog. This can be due to irrelevant or quality lacking content or because your readers like the way you write and do not like the writing style of any other author. This can be avoided by many ways, some are offered below;
1. Hosting guest posts on subdomain of your primary domain.
2. Creating your unique feed and allowing subscription to that feed.
